What are the self-perceptions, preoccupations and creativities of women poets writing across the diaspora? How do they fuse their lived experiences with their rich imagination? What kind of breakthroughs do they seek as women writers living in this multicultural world?
Cynthia Miller is a Malaysian-American poet, poetry festival producer and innovation consultant. She Co-Founded Verve Poetry Festival. Her poems have appeared in Ambit, The Rialto, Butcher’s Dog, Poetry Birmingham Literary Journal, harana poetry, The Best New British and Irish Poets and Primers Volume Two. Cynthia was longlisted for the Women Poets’ Prize, and in 2021 she was awarded an Eric Gregory Award by the Society of Authors. Her debut collection Honorifics was published by Nine Arches Press in June 2021 and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection.
Tammy Lai-Ming Ho is the Editor-in-Chief of Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, a co-editor of the academic journal Hong Kong Studies, and the English Editor of Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine. She is an Associate Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University, a Junior Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities, and an advisor to the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing. Tammy’s books include Hula Hooping (Chameleon), for which she won the Young Artist Award in Literary Arts from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Her Name Upon The Strand (Delere Press), Too Too Too Too (Math Paper Press), An Extraterrestrial in Hong Kong (Musical Stone), and Neo-Victorian Cannibalism (Palgrave). She co-edited Twin Cities: An Anthology of Twin Cinema from Singapore and Hong Kong (Landmark Books) and Hong Kong 2020: Reflections on a Borrowed Place (Blacksmith Books). Tammy is also a translator and her translations can be found in World Literature Today, Chinese Literature Today, and the International Poetry Nights in Hong Kong volumes (2015, 2017, 2019).
Claire Cox was born in Hong Kong, Claire Cox now lives and works in Oxfordshire. She completed an M.A. in Creative Writing from Oxford Brookes University, winning the Blackwell’s Prize for best student. Claire is Associate Editor for ignitionpress poetry pamphlet publishers, and is a part-time practice-based PhD student at Royal Holloway, University of London studying poetry and disaster. She has been published in Ink, Sweat & Tears, Magma, Envoi, The Butcher’s Dog and Lighthouse. Her first pamphlet was joint winner of the Nine Arches Press ‘Primers Five’ competition.
Belle Ling received her PhD in Creative Writing at The University of Queensland, Australia. Her first poetry collection A Seed and a Plant was shortlisted for The HKU International Poetry Prize 2010. Her recent poetry manuscript Rabbit-Light was highly commended in the 2018 Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize. Her other manuscript Grass Flower Head was shortlisted for the First Book Poetry Prize 2018 of Puncher and Wattmann. Her poem “63 Temple Street, Mong Kok” was a co-winner in the Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2018 held by the Australian Book Review. She is now teaching at The University of Hong Kong.
